Lithgow Annual Triathlon

                                    7th December 2008
Lithgow Swimming Club is running a Triathlon this year to encourage Lithgow residents to get fit and try this exciting and energetic sport.  With recent health surveys confirming the poor health in the local community, the Lithgow Swimming Club is endeavoring to take a pro-active approach by holding this event to inspire our local residents.

It is envisaged that this event will be a great success, with interest from afar as the South Coast, North Sydney, Orange and Bathurst, Mudgee. We hope with many participants from near and far and their families providing moral support, the influx of people to the area will bring prestige to the event and tourism dollars to the local area
.
We hope that the event will grow each year in its existence and it is in this capacity that we are approaching local businesses to advertise with us or contribute a donation towards the event.

There will be three distances that can be entered as an individual entry, or together with a group of friends to make up a ‘team-relay entry’ in the Main and Preliminary events.

Main Event - consists of 350m swim, 20 km bike ride and a 5 km run for men, women and teams of three.

Preliminary Event - 200m swim, 10 km bike ride and a 3 km run for men, women and also teams of three

Tri a Tri  - a smaller event for beginners or juniors -50 m swim, 1 km bike ride and 500m run.

We are aiming to encourage families to participate in the hope this will build self-confidence, promote a healthy whole body image and importantly the motivation to continue in the pursuit of basic exercise and fun through a very friendly sport. We will also promote the event as a pre-season training event for the winter sporting teams, as well as continuing fitness levels for the summer sportsmen and women.
The Lithgow SES will be controlling traffic for the safety of competitors and we will have radio contact with the St Johns ambulance that will be stationed poolside as a precautionary measure just in case there are any accidents needing medical attention. Both companies have expressed enthusiasm for the event that we hope you will share in.

SO? What are you waiting for? Get out there and tell some one! Bring a friend, bring two or three and make this a fun day of outdoor relaxation and recreation, and get some lifestyle fitness enroute to finding out all about the sport of triathlon.
